Opaque Dentin ZR

Aesthetic ceramic coating applied over a baked resistant substructure based on ultra hard zircon and sodium oxide.

Opaque Dentin increases the opacity of dentin. It is used when there is a lack of space for applying a ceramic coating. Opaque dentin masks the undesirable reflection of passing light from the ground (opaque) layer on the entire surface of the crown or on its individual sections. It is recommended to use at the neck of the crown to the equator. Opaque dentin gives a more intense matte color at the crown neck and eliminates the need to tinge the crown necks to get a natural color gradation. Dentin mimics the natural transparency of enamel.

Taking into account the fact that opaque dentin has less transparency compared to simple dentine ceramics, it is used in the cervical zone of intermediate teeth, where the density of ceramics is limited. If the base of the bridge consists of several units differing in height and density, opaque dentin can be used to align them. With its help, a balance is achieved between light transmission and shade in the area of the cutting edge or on the front side of the recreated teeth.

The use of Opac dentin for other purposes can lead to a loss of light transmission of the crown and the creation of a “plastic” effect.

Standard coverage

Important warning: before applying another porcelain paste, first perform a deep cleaning of the frame and layer using steam or water and a brush.

Mix powdered ceramics (SD Ceram Opak Dentin, Dentin and the corresponding Enamel) with modeling liquid until a creamy consistency is obtained. Apply a small amount of Opak Dentin, Dentin and Enamel ceramics to the cervical and interdental areas and seal with a light vibration. Next, depending on the dental coating, use a little more Opak Dentin, Dentin and Enamel.

To compensate for the narrowing during sintering, shape the contour after this first application.

  • 1st firing:

After applying the dentine, place the crown on the roasting tray at a preheating temperature of 450°C. Next, close the oven for 6-minute drying and heat up in vacuum (vacuum mode starts at 450 °C) with a step of 50 °C/ min. to 920 °C (firing temperature). Exposure time: 1 minute in vacuum mode.

After completing the firing of the first Dentin/Enamel, adjust and clean the edges of the crown or bridge. Then, to achieve the final restoration appearance and compensate for the narrowing during firing, apply a second coating of Dentin or Enamel for re-firing in the oven.

  • 2nd firing:

Repeat the same procedure as when firing the first dentin, at a firing temperature of 915 °C. Any additional layers of dentin should be fired at a temperature of 915 °C.

If necessary, to obtain various colors in solid restoration coatings, use SD Ceram Opak Dentin powder of certain colors (gray, yellow, orange, brown), chrome modifiers of various color shades (A, B, C, D) or powder dentin modifiers of certain colors (white, yellow, orange, brown, pink, purple, blue).
